ABOUT US
Who We Are
I am not taking a course or teaching a course, but
the first leafy notes of color still herald the beginning
of a new year. The theme for AAUW’s
new year is Women and Girls in Action. We embody
that theme through the many upcoming activities
planned by our Branch, such as the book author
luncheon, teacup raffle LAF fundraiser, academic
scholarship award, high school student book
awards, stimulating group meetings, and
community educational outreach. Our newest
Branch initiative, largely established through the
extraordinary skill, advocacy and effort of our Past President, Ann Gordon, is the
NCCWSL scholarship. These funds enabled Alison Regan and Michelle Opalenik,
exemplary students from Southern Connecticut State University, to attend AAUW’s
National Conference for College Women Student Leadership. At out September
meeting, we will have the exciting opportunity to hear these young leaders describe
the experience. I look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Alice Reitz
President of the AAUW Shoreline Branch

Noteworthy from our historian Mary Ann McAvoy. In the spring 2010 we will be
celebrating the 60th anniversary of our Branch. “Our Club” was organized in 1934
and became an AAUW Branch in 1950. We received our 50 year certificate in May of
2000. AAUW was founded in June of 1881 and in 2006 we celebrated our 125th
anniversary.
